The Weekly Gazette - 02-07-2010

The Universal
Weekly Gazette

(February 1 to February 7, 2010)

]Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Universal Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in RMVXP itself.

Community Center

Announcements and Updates

Posted this week was a thread to notify members that, for your consideration, changes and updates that the forum undergoes are and were being performed with the best of intent. The intent of the thread was also to let the members understand that their feedback was being heard and to remind or refresh our new members of the new guidelines that came into effect the beginning of the year. Like other threads of this nature, it had been sidetracked by some who insist on posting negative feedback. They made claims that their feedback was being ignored and even questioned the manner and wording the announcements were being made, particularly this thread itself.

For the second week in a row, PK8 posted 5 new Arcade games. A rather ambitions goal he has if he intends to keep adding games week to week. This week's lot of games are: Amoeba, Alu's Revenge, Add It Up, 2D Knock-Out and Ad-Break Toilet Dash.

Feedback and Suggestions

Yes, it is true. The Initial spaces in the first line are ignored by the code tag. It is a problem with the CODE box in MyBB and is not the result of any plug-ins or edits to the forum structure itself. So it is not something that can readily be fixed by the management or technical staff (which are currently one and the same).

And Bacon asked about any Changes that would be appreciated within the forum. He asked that this not be counted as a critique thread but one for just visible changes or additions one would like seen. For example, some have asked to see a new skin for the forum.

Meanwhile, Computerwizoo7 asked "Is it Just me is my post count decreasing?" Yes. Yes it is, but the same went for anyone who posted within the Feedback thread. Due to the recent amount of spam posts within certain feedback threads, it was decided to exclude the feedback forum from increasing post counts. But due to some criticism and pressure, the feedback forum now supports post counts once again.

Lastly, FreakOfNature asked where to start character spriting thread and where to put it.. So Wyatt told him to consider the Design and Development forum.

Introductions and Farewells

First off, Computerwizoo7 returns from The dumpster, or so he says.

We got a big Hello Everyone from Kristovski, a new member who just joined the RPGMaking community and thought the place looked very nice.

Desbrina has returned. You may remember as an alumnus from the days of RMXP.Net and .Org. Now she's here.

And we got a big 'hoy hoy" from Mega Flare

BasharTeg is a relatively new member of the RPG making scene, but is getting pretty good with RPG Maker VX. His biggest strengths are eventing, script implementation, and dialogue. His current project is Terra Chimera: Soulfire, which you can find in our Upcoming Projects forum.

yami_vp found this site from a link at rpgmakervx.net (PinedaVX's site) and so decided to join. Yami_vp has been RMing since 2005 and has a preference for RMVX rather than RMXP.

And finally, we got a big 'Hey everyone' from Runefreak who found this site through Twitter, and is the owner of his own RMing forum. You can find the link to his forum in his signature.

General Chat

Oh, my god. There are really some stupid Facebook fan pages out there. Don't believe me? Take a look.

FreakOfNature started up his Fon-jr OCP which are the first characters to be created with his basic template (i think). Please feel free to comment but don't post any of your own work in here.

And like always, we're curious as to What's on your mind?

Gaming and Entertainment

It's been slow within the Gaming/Entertainment forum (go figure), but Wyatt posted The Arcade Thread which makes for a good tie-in thread for RMVXP's arcades. Record your high scores and brag... go wild. A good enough idea, it deserved to be 'stickied'.

Fun and Games

Who would have thought that when Unirvaledneo challenged us to Count to a million that we would be nearing the 100 mark in just over a week? Well, we're near the 100 mark already.

And back from the dead is the Rate the above poster's avatars topic. Have fun comparing your avatar to those of your fellow member's.

Speaking of back from the dead, the long running Word Association has returned. It's one of the more popular word games that PK8 started last year along with some others.

RPG Maker

Complete Projects

A month ago, TheRPGPlayer posted the Kingdom Hearts: Generation of Guardians but didn't get any feedback on his game. Anyone have any opinions?

Upcoming Projects

Legends of Loria, by Kristovsk, takes place in the world of Gaia. You can choose to venture on your own or follow the storyline across the diverse land of Loria. Learn the the history of the land and the different cultures as you find your way around. A demo is available

Bacon bumped his game, A Story of Love. his latest post has some great new pictures including a forest screenshot.

It didn't take long for Valdred to give us some more news regarding Blood of the Gods In fact, he announced that mapping is halfway done and a demo is going to be available soon.

And only after joining this week, BasharTeg posted his upcoming project, Terra Chimera - Soulfire which has a playable demo. His game is about a young soldier who has disturbing dreams of a life that wasn't his while he and his friend search for a mysterious artifact that may not even exist.

Development Discussion

Now let's face it. The What's up topic isn't going anywhere. So I mentioned it right away.

The discussion on Big Maps vs. Small Maps has returned and always has some good points for either side. For new to mapping, this thread is a worthwhile read.

And Bacon just created a new discussion on World Maps He has a number of questions about world maps for both player and game designer viewpoints. Let's hear from you how you feel about world maps.

Support

First off, ShadowIce is asking for Help Making Random Maps with Tonbi's Random Map Generator (available in the forum). It is an advanced script so those new to using RGSS and RPGMaker XP could end up a little confused.

Kristovski is trying To Find Charasets that he saw elsewhere that are custom 'dead character' characersets that compliment the existing RMXP RTP graphics. If anyone is familiar with these charactersets, please respond.

Mila26 still needs some comments on his title screen. Anyone?

Silne30 has a conflict between his Level Up Point Spending System and Minkoff's Animated Battlers in that his Level Up system is showing the whole spritesheet instead of a selected battler frame.

Tutorials

Three old tutorials by Stevester, Languages in Games and his follow ups,
Languages in Games II and Languages in Games III, were just posted this week. These are old tutorials from the 2005-2006 era of RPGMaker 2000, but are just as relevant for anyone wishing to make a fictional but realistc language.

User-Submitted Resources

First off, we got a new Sprite Dump from Wyatt. Other than a single characterset within the post, this is a nice small selection of tileset graphics.

Earthboy's younger brother, Theodoric posted some my new VX sprites, so if you're using RPGMaker VX, these are perfect for you.

And as always, Lunarea has given us more to her RTP Tileset Add-On topic. She has now added a variety of palm trees. And as a special request, added a medical curtain for Silne30.

Finally, yami_vp posted a few RMVX Charset Recolours you can add to your project. But he added to the thread that credit for these recolors goes to PinedaVX of RpgMakerVX.

Resource Requests

And a nod Bolt who just got his Graphics Artist thanks to putting in the request.

User-Submitted Scripts

Charlie Fleed bumped his FFIX Skills Activation System by updating it so the script allows you to manage the amount of Skill Activation Points available at each level.

Zarox notice the link was down in Ccoa's Weather Script topic. Now, her famous script is available within the first post..

DerVVulfman posted one of The Oldest Japanese Sideview CBS known to RPGMaker XP-dom. The name of the Japanese scripter is unknown, but the script is from the 2005-2006 era.

Newcomer, kingartur2, posted an Animated Tileset system that allows an entire tileset to be animated. Ever liked it when the grass in your favorite Super Nintendo game waved in the breeze? Now you can accomplish this yourself.

And Kain Nobel posted version 3.5 of his Map : Change Encounters system which allows you to alter the map' encounter list and steps values in-game.

Script Requests

Well, Zackxxi asked for a script that would change enemy encounters on a map and Zarox managed to find an old backup of Kain Nobel's "Change Encounters" script. Yes, the same one that Kain Nobel posted later this week. Let's hand it to both Zarox and Kain for coming through for this one.

And Zarox is looking for a State Defense Script which allows one status effect state to literally cancel out another, such as an 'anti-poison' state which would make one immune to 'poison' effects.

Finally, fgsfds is asking for a Absolute shield effect system so you need to perform sufficient enough damage to the shield before the target suffers HP loss.

Well, that's it for this week.

And just remember: "In politics, an absurdity is not a handicap." - Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821)

RE: The Weekly Gazette - 02-07-2010

I apologize for being in a bad mood and possibly being rude and straightforward. But this is really bugging me.

It's the feedback forum. We were giving you feedback. If you don't like negative feedback don't have a feedback forum.

People were stating their opinions and feelings. How is this "pressure"? If you can't deal with the members stating what they think you shouldn't be running a forum, in my opinion.

[hr]

No offense, DerVVulfman, but I read these to see what's been going on in the community. I'd appreciate it if you kept your personal opinions out of them. You're using these as a way to state your "closing thoughts" on matters and it's a very childish thing to do. And before you make a wordy response (while saying very little) with a bunch of sad-faced smilies I'd like to say I'd honestly prefer if you just accepted my feedback for once instead of pushing it back and rejecting it. I won't cause any more problems here; I'm just saying what I think. You are the one who makes things worse by feeling the need to try to make yourself look good and make the people with opposing opinions look like trouble makers when they're just trying to give you their thoughts.

Again, apologies for the bad mood, but that was the last thing I wanted to hear right now. I expect these to be professional and unbiased, but instead I had to read about how everyone's apparently trying to ruin the site. @_@

Omg Guardian, seriously, aside from the validity of your opinions, which I'm not questioning here, you're too much persisting. Take a break and give them a break. Peace.

I wouldn't have said anything if he hadn't said what he said. There's no reason to drag this out. He didn't have to comment on the threads like that. But as long as he feels like playing this game, I'm not going to just let him off easily. Yes, I'm stubborn. Yes, I should give them a break. But I'm not going to sit back and be insulted because I disagree with someone. Especially not after all I've tried to do to help them out.

I actually made these, but Pindavx asks that you credit him if you use his pallet (which I did for the Evil recolours )it makes it seem that they were made by Pinedavx. Sorry I didn't make it clear
Great gazette by the way!

Derv thanks for the hard work on the gazette. Believe me, I appreciate that someone actually takes time to do this kind of stuff. My job doesn't even do this kind of stuff.
